Modular, prefab, stick, panel, these are all just different methods of construction.
And there are pluses and minuses with each.

For instance, on an addition or a renovation to an existing home, usually, the only
choice that makes any sense is to stick frame.

But when it comes to a new home, stick framing the entire home is probably not
the best option. Stick framing is probably a favorite method of most small builder.
But it has a lot of limitations when it comes to quality.

Watch these videos to see why (future posts will go over pros and
cons of modular and prefab methods):

I don’t know if it’s the transplants from the west coast or that
DC really is just less conservative when it comes to home styles
than everyone seems to think.

But, over the last few years, we’ve had more and more
clients requesting contemporary and even modern design (modern
tends to have more of the raw building materials exposed – steel
girders, concrete floors).

Here’s the concept elevation of the new contemporary model home:

New Contemporary Style Home To Be Built In McLEan Virginia
New Contemporary Style Smaller Size Home

In fact, we think there is enough demand for contemporary style
homes that we’re designing a contemporary style home to be built
as a model home in downtown McLean this spring.

We’re dealing with some difficult zoning and setback issues in
Fairfax County now, but hope to push forward for a late spring
ground breaking.

We’re also noticing a trend toward smaller homes the last few years.
Some call it “right-sizing”, one writer actually refers to this trend
as ‘Smallville” homes.

So our contemporary new home model will be on the
smaller side of the home-size-scale. I’ll also have future
posts showing off our Kenwood-15 new semi-custom
home that we’re launching now in the City of Falls Church.
You’ll see The Kenwood in our smaller home series coming out soon.
This new home will be 100% luxury living on the first floor (2nd floor optional
and preliminary pricing coming in around $200K, but we’re still costing
it out).

Here’s the concept floor plans for our Cedar Model.
Please let me know what you think. We’d love your feedback,
so all comments are appreciated. This home
will is slated to be constructed as a modular
home.

We just started de-construction of an existing home
that will be demolished to make room for our new Model Home.

Please turn up the volume after about a minute.

More Breaking News!
Watch this video and in the next few minutes you’re going
to see how easy it is to tour a model home under construction
whenever you want.

Take a Look at our Glenbrook model. This is the Model home
we’ll be building on this Bethesda site. This home won Home of
the year in 2007. We’ve updated the home plan, moved some walls around,
added a bay, added some windows and added stone to the front of the house.

And notice the covered porch, so when your guests and
family arrive for that holiday party, they won’t get soaked in the rain.

If you’re like me, you’ll love having a large open foyer so you and your
guests won’t feel cramped and awkward when you welcome them into
your new home. And notice the easy flowing circulation
path around the foyer, family room ,kitchen and dining room. Can
you see why I’m so excited about showing off this
new model home? Check out the floor plans here.

Notice the home office over the garage. It’s plenty spacious and away
from the action, so you’ll be able to concentrate and focus while you’re
working from home. And the secondary bathrooms are layed out so your
kids 2 bedrooms can share the jack and jill bath. And when your house
guest stays over, they can have their own suite.
As you study these floor plans you’ll realize how nice it is to build your
home customized to your exact needs.

Now the lower level has tons of space. This space can be sectioned off so
you can watch movies in the movie room or just send your kids down so
you can enjoy peace and quiet upstairs while
you’re entertaining your friends. Remember when you were in high school
and your parents made you entertain your friends downs stairs? Well I do.
And that’s why we designed this plan
so the kids can’t sneak out and pool hop like I did when I went to Winston
Churchill High School and pool hopped at Tally -Ho pool in Potomac. But
if you really want a separate entrance, or an Au Pairs suite, we can effortlessly
design it in. And that’s an example of why I’m calling our new home plans
Semi-Custom Homes You Can Customize.
Because with Kevin, our on staff genius architect, making changes to plans so
you get exactly what you want will be easy as playing with etch-a-sketch.

Now take a look at the actual award winning home.
Can you Imagine yourself opening the door at your next holiday party and
greeting your guests in this bright, spacious,
dynamic foyer. Wouldn’t that be nice?

Just think how pleasant it will be having all those guests over watching the
Redskins at your next Superbowl party. You’ll love being able to socialize with
friends and family while your cooking in this spacious open floor plan with 9 foot ceilings.

And here’s a fact for you, homes with open floor plans, homes with rooms
flowing easily from one to another, are just more pleasant to live in. Are
you beginning to see how much more enjoyable a new home will make your life?

I think you’ll really like this new updated award winning plan. We’ll be giving tours
of the model home during construction, if you don’t mind the construction mess,
and if you want to imagine what building your home will be like, you’ll definitely
want to walk this model home while we’re building. And in 6 months, when the
model home is complete, you’ll be able to tour the finished product. We’ll also be
starting a few other model homes around town. We’ll let you know as they go up.

And by the way, stay tuned for our semi custom homes coming out in the spring.
And you’ll be surprised to discover how affordable we’re going to make these to you
before we open these fresh, dynamic new home plans up to the general public. We’re
calling this new line of homes, semi-custom homes you can customize.

Obviously, you can clearly see the advantage of living in an award winning home design
that you can customize to meet your exact needs.

You are ready for your dream home, right?
